Obadiah

Obadiah was a 6th Century BC prophet and writer who spoke of the doom of Edom (the land of Petra), who dwelt in the rocky areas of land just south-east of Israel and north of the Red Sea (Gulf of Aqaba). This was the land of Esau (the brother of Jacob) and his descendants. They had not been faithful to the Lord and had rejoiced of seeing Judah's destruction by Babylon (c. 605 BC). So, now, about 585 BC, the prophecy of their destruction was given. Sela (later called Petra, as known today) faced its destruction as God had said, and to this very day it remains a place of ruins, as a testimony. Enjoy learning the message of this prophet, and take to heart his warnings from God!

Jonah

Jonah was an 8th Century BC prophet who, after a runaway from God, was redirected through a storm, a whale's belly, and then back to his preaching assignment to the Assyrian capital city of Nineveh. With great success of preaching, the whole city of more than 120,000 people submitted themselves to God in repentance, under order of the king. In this series you can explore the rich lessons of the text, and even consider what kind of fish or whale Jonah was actually in and how he made it through, by God's grace!

Zephaniah

Be blessed in studying Zephaniah, a 7th Century BC prophet who spoke about "the Day of the Lord" and the coming fall of Jerusalem for their sins before the Lord, when Babylon would overtake them! His book is dated to the time of "Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah" (Zeph. 1:1).

Haggai

A short, two chapter book of the Prophet Haggai who also did ministry with the Prophet Zechariah (and just before him), during the days when the temple was in need of rebuilding, after the Babylonian exile (exile of 605-539 BC). His messages, along with those of Zechariah, encouraged the people to take up the work to finally be able to finish the rebuilding of God's Holy Temple in Jerusalem (the 2nd Temple). The Temple was finally completed in 515 BC.

Zechariah

The prophet Zechariah ministered at a time when a number of God's people had recently returned from the Babylonian Captivity (which had lasted from about 608-538 BC), to their homeland under the leadership of Zerubbabel and Joshua the high priest. They had been given the task of rebuilding the city of Jerusalem and God's second temple! However, work on the temple had stagnated and God's people were discouraged from the difficulties they were facing! God raised up the prophets Haggai and Zechariah (who began having visions about two months after Haggai) to bring encouragement and guidance to his people so that the work could be finished! The message of Zechariah holds great encouragement for us who need to be doing God's work even at our day and time! It also contains a number of prophecies concerning the coming Messiah! You will be blessed by the encouraging and practical truths of this book!

Malachi

Get to know about the prophet Malachi and his message! This sixth century BC prophet is the last biblical prophet to have written before the close of the Old Testament. He prophesies to a nation that was again in need of repentance! Covering topics like the sin lethargic formal worship, and ill-treatment of God, to the despicable practice of divorce, God's coming judgement, the coming Messiah and his preceding messenger, as well as Christ's work in the Temple of Heaven, the subject of hell-fire and the final judgement, and the Elijah message! This little book is loaded with practical and important subjects for God's people!
